crAppstore / Point My Domain

Plain-English instructions for pointing a domain, for your exact registrar.

You bought the domain. Now make it go to the thing — which menu, which box, what to type in it.

What it does

Tell it your web address, who you bought it from, and where it needs to point, and it writes out the exact steps for your exact registrar — which menu, which box, what goes in it, in order. It starts with what to write down first, so you can undo everything if you need to.

Copy the settings, save the plan as a file, print it, or hand it to your web person with a share link — with your name on it instead of ours, if that is how you bill. It can watch the domain and tell you when the change has actually gone through, and if you manage a whole list of client domains, it will check them all.

Who it's for

For anyone who has ever stared at a DNS panel like it was a fuse box. Also for the web person who is tired of writing these instructions by hand for every single client.

How it works

1. Two boxes. Your web address, and where it should go — the address your website company gave you, like 76.76.21.21, or a hostname. That is all it asks for.

2. It looks your domain up. Using public DNS lookup services (Google's and Cloudflare's), it reads what your domain does right now: the main address record, the www record, the nameservers, and whether you have email on the domain. You get that back as a plain-English summary, not a wall of records.

3. It works out who runs your DNS and picks the matching guide from its shop of 21 — GoDaddy, Namecheap, Wix, Squarespace, Cloudflare, Shopify, Bluehost, Hostinger, Porkbun, Amazon Route 53 and the rest. Guessed wrong? A picker lets you choose. Somewhere truly obscure gets a general guide that still works.

4. Write this down first. Before any steps, it shows your current settings so you can put everything back if you need to. Copy them, save them as a file, or print them.

5. Follow the steps. Which menu, which box, what goes in it, in order — written for your exact registrar. The steps change only the A record, which leaves your email alone. If your website company asked you to change nameservers instead, it warns you what that can break before you do it.

6. Watch for the green light. Tap Start watching and it re-checks your domain every 15 seconds, turning the light green the moment the domain really is pointing at the new place.

7. Hand it off. Export the plan as Markdown, JSON or CSV. Make a share link that carries the domain, the target and the right guide to whoever does the clicking. Put your business name on the page and every file. Paste a list and check up to ten client domains in one table.

What you walk away with

A plan you can hold. The steps on screen, on paper if you print them, or saved as a file — plus a copy of your old settings, which is the part everyone skips and then wishes they hadn't.

Then proof. The watcher turns its light green when the change has really taken, so you are not refreshing your site every two minutes wondering if you did it right.

If you do this for other people: the plan in Markdown, JSON or CSV, a share link that opens with everything pre-filled for the client's exact registrar, your business name on the page and the files instead of ours, and one table covering up to ten domains at once.

Every feature, in plain words

The lookup. Reads your domain's current records and says what they mean in plain English.

The email warning. The steps stick to the A record so your inbox survives. If a nameserver change is on the table, it tells you what that would drag along with it.

Registrar guides. Click-by-click steps for 21 registrars and hosts, including the odd corners — like Cloudflare's orange cloud, which gets its own warning.

Write this down first. Your current settings, shown before anything else, with copy, save and print buttons.

The watcher. Re-checks every 15 seconds until the domain points where it should. There is a stop button.

Exports. Plain text on every rung; Markdown, JSON and CSV on the top one.

The share link. One link that carries the domain, the target and the right guide to your web person.

White label. Your name on it instead of ours, on screen and on every export.

The batch check. Paste up to ten domains, get one table of where each points.

The honest ladder. Locked features stay visible and explain themselves when tapped, then unlock free during the beta.

The honest part

It cannot log into your registrar, and it never asks for your password. You do the clicking; it tells you exactly where to click. That is the deal.

DNS takes however long DNS takes. After you save the change, the world can take anywhere from a few minutes to a day or two to notice. The watcher staying amber for a while does not mean you did it wrong.

The watching happens in your open tab, not on our server. Close the tab and the watching stops. It is a page, not a monitoring service.

The lookups go through Google's and Cloudflare's public DNS services — the same kind of lookup every browser on earth does. The only thing sent is the domain name being checked. Your settings, your plan and your client list stay in your browser.

And 21 guides is 21 guides. If your registrar is genuinely obscure, you get the general guide plus the exact search phrase that finds their own help page.

Questions people ask

Will this break my email? The steps change only the A record, which leaves email alone. If someone told you to change nameservers, the app warns you about your inbox before you touch anything.

Do you log into my registrar for me? No. It writes the steps; you click them. It never sees your password.

My registrar isn't in the list. Now what? Pick "Somewhere else" and you get the general guide, plus the search phrase that finds your provider's own help page.

How long until the light turns green? Usually minutes, sometimes up to a day or two. That delay is DNS itself, not you.

Can I send this to a client with my name on it? Yes — the top rung puts your business name on the page and on every file and share link.
